Fondant Basics Cake Decorating Class

(**Students must already be able to bake a layer cake and ice it smooth, as they will be required to bring an iced layer cake to class, ready to cover in fondant. If you cannot already do this, please take the Buttercream Basics class before taking this class.)

One class fee includes all three sessions:

In this three part class, students will learn the basics of working with fondant, including how to:

* Cover a cake with fondant so that it has nice, straight sides and edges
* Make a variety of fondant/gumpaste bows and basic flowers
* Make and use fondant applique decorations like stripes, polka dots, shapes, plaques, and more
* Avoid cracks, tears, and "elephant skin" in your work
* Get rid of water and powdered sugar spots for a beautiful, professionally finished look

Students must bring these supplies to sessions 1 and 2:
5 lb white Satin Ice fondant, CMC powder or Tylose powder, half-sheet size or larger silicone mat, small fondant rolling pin (about 9" long), 5-petal flower cutter set (1/2" to 3" diameter, set of 3 or more), medium fondant ball tool (a fondant tool set containing this tool would be even better), Wilton shaping foam set (or equivalent foam), assorted gel colors for bows and flowers, small detail paint brush, pizza wheel style cutter, xacto knife or small sharp paring knife, small cutting board, quarter sheet sized plain cake board, 12-18" ruler, box or container to take home finished bows and loops.

Students must bring these supplies to session 3:
All items from the first two sessions (including the bows/flowers they have made), plus an 18" or larger silicone mat, 12" or longer rolling pin or rod, fondant smoothers (1 is sufficient, but 2 would be better), and an 8" round layer cake iced smooth with crusting buttercream or firm ganache (NO whipped cream icing, please!). 

** Please note that there will not be room in class for additional guests or children.

Class fees are nonrefundable 24 hours after online purchase, and are not transferable to a class at a later date. However, if you must miss class, you are welcome to offer your seat to a friend!
